Your Emission & Exhaust System:
The emission and exhaust system is extensive. It starts at the engine of your vehicle and ends at the tailpipe. This system involves and connects various vehicle parts:
- Exhaust pipes
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves and sensors
- Engine cylinders
- Oxygen sensors
- Catalytic converter
Exhaust system dangers:
A simple pothole or other rough road condition can damage your emission and exhaust system. Another problem is exhaust gas. It contains carbon monoxide and other substances that can be dangerous if they are flowing into the passenger compartment.
Exhaust system problem can show up as noises like a steady roar, rattling, hissing, or metallic vibrations, or colored smoke from the tailpipe. If this occurs, have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
To be safe, have your emission and exhaust system checked about once a year.
